FAQ

How does Dianatal®  work?
Dianatal®  helps reduce friction during birth and thus makes childbirth easier, shorter and gentler: the expulsion phase can be up to 30% shorter, and the risk of injury to the perineum can be reduced by more than half.

Is Dianatal® harmless for me and my baby?
Dianatal® has been tested rigorously for tolerability and safety for both mother and child. No side effects were observed in more than 30’000 births. Dianatal® is safe for mother and child.

Has the effect of Dianatal® been scientifically proven?
The efficacy of Dianatal® has been proven in clinical testing.

Can Dianatal® be used at every birth?
Dianatal® can be used in every vaginal birth. Dianatal® is also particularly suitable for water births.

Who applies Dianatal®?
Dianatal® Obstetric Gel is applied by midwives or doctors during birth.

Why should one not use a “normal gel”?
The safety and efficacy of “normal gels” cannot be guaranteed due to their ingredients. Dianatal® has special properties which other gels do not have.

Are amniotic fluid and vernix not already naturally "slippery" enough?
Whereas amniotic fluid in itself is not slippery, vernix is. Unfortunately, in most newborns, the vernix has largely disappeared, so that no longer offers any relief during birth.

Is friction really relevant during childbirth?
Friction between the so-called birth canal and the baby is an important force which can obstruct birth. If friction is reduced by Dianatal®, the birth becomes easier. A similar example is the use of soap to slip off a ring from the finger more easily.
